Why do you have to pee so often?

When your baby’s head presses on your bladder, space is reduced, making it hard to hold it. At the same time, your kidneys may produce more urine than usual, and the bladder empties easier when full.
In short: pressure + more urine = frequent bathroom trips.

Quick facts:

  • The bladder empties when stretched → you feel the urge.
  • Small amounts of liquid can trigger the same feeling.
  • The bladder can “leak” if too full.
  • Everything returns to normal after birth.

Tips to manage frequent urination

1. Plan bathroom breaks – Go before leaving home or bedtime. Regular small visits reduce stress and accidents.
2. Drink smart – Drink enough water, but avoid lots right before bed. Cut back on caffeine and sugar.
3. Exercise your pelvic floor – Kegel exercises strengthen muscles around the bladder. Helps with leaks and prepares you for delivery.
4. Adjust daily life – Keep the nearest bathroom in mind and plan activities near home. Light clothing makes frequent trips easier.
5. Nighttime trips – Keep a small light on and water nearby to avoid fully waking up.

When to see your doctor:

Seek help if you notice:

  • Pain or burning when peeing
  • Blood in urine
  • Sudden, strong increase in urge to urinate

Could indicate a urinary tract infection or other complications needing treatment.
