Pregnancy test shows the way

If you're trying to get pregnant, you're probably eager to check if you've been successful as soon as possible after potential fertilization. If you suspect that you're pregnant, you can take a pregnancy test to get a quick answer to the question - did it happen?

When an egg is fertilized, the placenta starts producing the hormone hCG, which prevents the embryo from being rejected. A pregnancy test measures the amount of hCG hormone in urine and can provide a fast answer to whether or not you're pregnant.

Take the test at the time of your period, as most tests give a reliable answer on the same day your period would have started. If you take the test too early, hormone levels may be too low to give a reliable answer. If that's the case, take another test after a week if your period is missed.

Different Tests but the Same Function

There are many different pregnancy tests, and they differ slightly in appearance and function. They may look like a plastic stick, pen, or paper stick, but all tests have one thing in common - they have a part that absorbs the urine to measure the hCG level. If you follow the instructions in the manual and the test shows that you're pregnant, you can be pretty sure that it's true. Getting the answer usually only takes a few minutes.

Feelings After a Pregnancy Test

When you get the result of a test, you'll probably react with strong emotions, depending on whether it's positive or negative and what your expectations were. You might also react in a way that you weren't prepared for, and your emotions might change quickly. Keep in mind that there are no right or wrong feelings, and it's completely normal to feel a little confused. If you have any questions after a pregnancy test, feel free to contact a midwifery clinic.
