When an egg is fertilized, the placenta begins to produce the hormone hCG, which prevents the embryo from being rejected. A pregnancy test measures the amount of hCG hormone in urine and can quickly provide an answer to whether you are pregnant or not.
Test at the time of menstruation, as most tests give a reliable answer on the same day as the period would have started. If you take the test too early, hormone levels may be too low to give a reliable answer. If so, take a new test after a week if the period is missed.
Different tests but the same function
There are many different pregnancy tests and they differ slightly in appearance and function. They can look like a plastic stick, pen, or paper stick, but what all tests have in common is that they have a part that absorbs the urine to measure the hCG level. If you follow the instructions in the manual and the test shows that you are pregnant, you can most likely be confident that it is true. Getting the answer usually only takes a few minutes.
Feelings after a pregnancy test
When you get the result of a test, you are likely to react with strong emotions, depending on whether it is positive or negative, and what expectations you have had. You may also react in a way that you were not prepared for, and the emotions can also change quickly. Remember that there are no right or wrong feelings and that it is completely normal to feel a little confused. Please contact a midwifery clinic if you have any questions after a pregnancy test.
